Stating that as the Turkish delegation, they will present their views in the fields such as EU membership negotiations, the Eastern Mediterranean and the protection of regional gains, within the framework of Turkey's interests, President Dr. Mustafa Palancioğlu, “At the congress of local and regional governments where I represent Turkey in the Council of Europe, we are holding our meeting online this year again due to the pandemic. The first agenda item today is Turkey's relations with the European Union and the work to be done to enter the EU. In this context, we started the agenda with the speech of Fatma Şahin, the President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey and the Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, and the Deputy Minister, Faruk Kaymakçı. We also attend these meetings on behalf of Turkey. These studies will continue until Thursday on different topics. In this context, we will express our views and what needs to be done within the framework of Turkey's interests. As always, the EU highlights some issues from its own perspective and criticizes Turkey. However, he closes his eyes on Turkey, especially on immigration policy and rights, and does not want to support Turkey. Here, especially the Cyprus issue, drilling and oil exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean, such issues are discussed and unfortunately they present various arguments to corner Turkey. In this context, we will express our views and what needs to be done within the framework of Turkey's interests. I hope it will be a meeting in favour of Turkey.” said.
