Melikgazi Municipality, dedicated to safeguarding the historical heritage left by the past, continues the restoration efforts of Gön Han with great importance. Simultaneously, within the last 5 years, the municipality has revealed 16 different historical artifacts in the district as part of these efforts.
Expressing the commitment of Melikgazi Municipality to historical artifacts and culture, Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu stated, 'In this regard, we are reclaiming 16 different historical artifacts for Kayseri and Melikgazi within our municipality. Our efforts in this direction are rapidly continuing. Currently, we are inside Gön Han. Built 500 years ago by Piri Mehmet Pasha, Gön Han used to be a hotel where merchants staying at the Covered Bazaar had 8-square-meter rooms. Although it was used for a long time, it has not been in use for the last 70-80 years and the interior had completely collapsed due to an earthquake. We started working as Melikgazi Municipality and transported over 3000 trucks of excavation material, revealing the original traces of the Han. Thus, a magnificent picture emerged. We are restoring Gön Han in a manner faithful to its original form. This place will be one of Kayseri's social and cultural venues. The restoration work we are doing is not limited to Gön Han alone. We have restored many places, such as Suya Kanmış Hatun Tomb, Dört Ayak Tomb, Sırçalı Kümbet, and the fountains in Gesi and the city centre. One of the significant restoration projects, similar to Gön Han, is the restoration of Köşk Medrese. We have reached the final stages of the restoration of the medrese and have moved on to landscaping. Therefore, preserving our history and passing on these values to future generations is of utmost importance. I wish the success of our efforts. I extend my gratitude to all my colleagues and those who contributed to these projects.
