THE HISTORICAL FABRIC OF THE CITY CENTER WILL BE REVEALED IN ALL ITS BEAUTY
Stating that they will carry out works to bring Kayseri's historical fabric to the citizens in its most beautiful form, Mayor
Palancıoğlu included the following statements in his statement:
“As Melikgazi Municipality, we are implementing many restoration projects. Perhaps the most important of these is the restoration of Gön Han, which stood for a long time along with the Historical Covered Bazaar, but has been forgotten for the last 50-60 years. The restoration of Gön Han, built by Piri Mehmet Pasha, is now in its final stage, nearing completion. The restorations of Vezir Han and Bedesten will also be completed by the Regional Directorate of Foundations in 2026. Since we will also complete Gön Han, a very intense beauty will emerge in that area. Of course, the Kayseri Covered Bazaar, which is the main center of trade and has performed very important duties from the past to the present, is the most important historical monument for us. We will carry out two different works in April and June of 2026. Our faculty members from Abdullah Gül University, our President of Kayseri City Council, our President of the Chamber of Architects, and Melikgazi Municipality will be involved in a special project. We will sign off on the work. We will hold a good workshop with all the valuable scientists and academics working on this subject internationally, especially our guests from cities with covered bazaars such as Bursa, Istanbul, and Gaziantep, to evaluate and improve the Covered Bazaar in the best way possible; especially to ensure that Gön Han, Vezir Han, and Bedesten are used in the best way possible. We held the second meeting of this workshop. Hopefully, the work we will do will be beneficial.”
