SUMMER MONTHS AT GÖN HAN WILL BE SOMETHING ELSE, FILLED WITH CULTURE AND ART.
08 March 2026

Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, inspecting the restoration work at the five-century-old Historical Gön Han, which is nearing completion, said that they are close to the end.

President Palancıoğlu, stating that they have restored Gön Han, which will host a variety of colorful events this summer, in accordance with its original form, said, "As Melikgazi Municipality, we are bringing many works to Melikgazi, and restoring historical works. One of the most important works among these is our Gön Han. It is right next to the Grand Bazaar. When we first discovered this place, most of the parts that are now visible were not there. To bring it to this state, we removed nearly 7,000 truckloads of excavation material. The traces of this 500-year-old structure have emerged as a result of our diligent work. We have restored this structure in accordance with its original form. "We restored it. We are experiencing the joy of bringing a new historical artifact to Kayseri. Many cultural and artistic activities will be held here in the summer of 2026. In addition to places to drink tea and coffee, there will be exhibitions, talks, live music, fairs, and bazaars. Hopefully, it will attract many local and foreign tourists. We have now reached the final stage of this work. We have a few minor deficiencies left in a few places. The rooms have emerged and we have reached the final stage. We will furnish 3-4 of the old inn rooms. This will add value to the Covered Bazaar. I thank all my colleagues who contributed to this work. Historical artifacts are extremely important to us. After making the final touches when the weather improves, we will all celebrate the opening of this place together. May it be beneficial for Kayseri and Melikgazi." he said.
