Melikgazi Municipality immediately intervened in the approximately 30-year-old stone wall that collapsed due to excessive rainfall on Şehit Kemal Ergen Street in Mimarsinan Neighborhood.
In order to protect the lives of citizens and to quickly eliminate the danger in the area, the municipality teams started the work to build a modern retaining wall, 250 meters long and an average of 7 meters high.
MAYOR PALANCIOĞLU INSPECTED THE WORKS ON SITE
Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, who closely followed and inspected the works on site, stated the following:
“Mimarsinan On Şehit Kemal Ergen Street, located at the entrance of our neighborhood, there was a stone wall built in the nineties, reaching a height of up to 10 meters in some places. Due to excessive rainfall, a large landslide occurred there last week. Thankfully, we took the necessary precautions without any problems and started a major project here. Building such stone walls above the standards carries a significant risk. After a while, with rainfall, the wall swells and there is a risk of collapse. I want to warn our citizens about this. Of course, the stone walls here were built 30-40 years ago and have swollen with the rainfall. We will take the necessary precautions here and ensure the safety of our citizens. Our retaining wall work will begin, and after we build the retaining wall, we will reopen the road to traffic. We will open it. May our work be fruitful.”
