MELİKGAZİ MUNICIPALITY MEHMET ALTUN AVIATION AND SPACE TECHNOLOGIES VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL ANATOLIAN HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH WILL RESTART THE HISTORY OF AVIATION IN KAYSERI, WAS INTRODUCED TO THE PRESS
17 July 2025

Melikgazi Municipality Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu met with members of the press and introduced Melikgazi Municipality Mehmet Altun Aviation and Space Technologies Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, which he established in the area where Turkey's first aircraft factory was established and where a century-old story will be rewritten, and he gave detailed information to the attendees about the high school.
The High School Will Be a Hope for Young People, Provide Employment and Direct Kayseri's Industry
Stating that they are proud and happy to take an important step that will shape the future of Kayseri and Turkey as the Melikgazi Municipality, Mayor Palancıoğlu said, “You are all witnessing a historic day today. This has been a dream of mine that I have desired for many years. A century ago, we built our high school, which is the only one in Türkiye with its architecture, on an area of 25 thousand square meters in Kayseri, where the history of aviation began. During the project phase of this school, we visited relevant institutions and organizations in places like Istanbul, Ankara and Eskişehir and got their opinions. Right next to the school, we built Türkiye's first We will build an aviation middle school, God willing. We will also build a dormitory behind it. Since we accept students through the Higher Education Institutions Exam (LGS), we will accept students from across Turkey. We will provide scholarship support to all students who will study here. We are bringing to life a school that has made a mark in the field of education in Melikgazi. All relevant directorates, including our President of Defense Industries Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, Vice President of Defense Industries Prof. Dr. Hakan Karataş, Minister of National Education Mr. Yusuf Tekin, General Manager of TUSAŞ Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu, our Academy President, and General Managers of TAI, visited our school during the construction phase. Twelve schools in Turkey will operate with the support of our Presidency of Defense Industries. This school will be one of them. Therefore, our Presidency of Defense Industries, TAI, and institutions such as TOMTAŞ will support this school. Our students will complete their internships here, and employment opportunities will be created. As the Melikgazi Municipality, we will sign a protocol with the Ministry of National Education and the Presidency of Defense Industries to support this high school and ensure it has all the necessary opportunities. "Hopefully, we will have opened a school that will be the apple of Kayseri's eye. I hope families from Kayseri and surrounding provinces will consider this school. There will be an English preparatory class. I will personally teach English. The hangar we are currently in will be the site for the repair and modification of several aircraft," he said.
"This is our future." President Mustafa Palancıoğlu continued his speech as follows:
“We wanted to share our excitement with you, our esteemed members of the press. There has been more interest than we expected in enrolling in our school. The Ministry of National Education’s phones are blocked for applications. Thankfully, our work has reached its goal. We are very happy about this. We will finish the landscaping before the school opens and will start the dormitory and middle school project as soon as possible. It includes a large hangar, 11 workshops, a laboratory, a library, new-generation classrooms, and a cafeteria. Once all work is completed, the tools and equipment will arrive. Two departments are being opened here. We will take 48 students in the 2025-2026 academic year. There will be no transfers from other high schools. Hopefully, the successful students who choose this school will contribute to both the industry and the future of Kayseri. If our students who graduate from here want and are accepted, they will be able to study at Erciyes University’s Faculty of Aviation and Astronautics and the Faculty of Engineering. They will also be able to receive all necessary training. Those who don't want to go to university will be quickly employed in aviation-related institutions. Therefore, this school will not only revitalize the industry but also pave the way for employment. Perhaps this press conference, this opening, will be mentioned and remembered 20-30 years from now. I believe such vocational high schools are important for shaping Kayseri's industry. Thank you for your participation. I wish the Melikgazi Municipality Mehmet Altun Aviation and Space Technologies Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School success. I would like to thank our benefactor Mehmet Altun, our ministers, our members of parliament, Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek, our Metropolitan Mayor, relevant institutions, and our Provincial and District Heads. We have new vocational high school projects. I will share them with you later.
