Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, Meeting with the newly admitted students and their parents at the Melikgazi Municipality Mehmet Altun Aviation and Space Technologies Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, provided information about the school.
Emphasizing that he believes the young people graduating from the Aviation High School will be the future not only of Kayseri but also of Türkiye, Mayor Mustafa Palancıoğlu said, “Although we boast about being the municipality that builds the most schools in Türkiye, the Aviation and Space Sciences High School is one of the schools we are most proud of. Now we will crown this with the Technology High School that we will build. Later, God willing, we will also build a Foreign Trade High School. I see that students who choose departments they don't want are not happy in the departments they study in. We shouldn't force students to go to university. Those who are naturally inclined should definitely go to a vocational high school. They need to be graduates. I give special importance to this school. We don't have budget problems; we meet whatever needs this place has. I have great faith in these children. If you, as parents, also believe in them and support them, these children will be not only the future of Kayseri but also the future of Türkiye. This school is a school where Selçuk Bayraktars will be trained. This school is one of the 13 schools selected in Türkiye within the scope of the ELMAS Program, which is run by the Presidency of the Defense Industry. Baykar company became the tax record holder in Türkiye with its UAV production. Therefore, we need to focus on high value-added, R&D-based businesses.” He said.
Expressing his strong belief that the students studying at this school will be successful, Mayor Palancıoğlu continued his speech as follows:
“As Melikgazi Municipality, we purchased a humanoid robot last month. We want to create the infrastructure for this robot in the technology high school. We want to establish a robotics department here and enable our industrialists in Kayseri to enter the robot production business. In 1949, TOMTAŞ produced airplanes in the Aircraft Factory in this very place we are in. Then, when Marshall Aid came, this place was closed and turned into an aircraft maintenance and repair center. If we believe in these children, they can all become success stories for Turkey. May God grant us success in this matter. May God grant us the opportunity to do so. We are among the top 3 in producing UAVs and UCAVs. This needs to continue. In this respect, we are trying to support this as much as we can. Our work on this continues. We will build a men's dormitory, a sports hall, and start furnishing the workshops. We will take our students to TEKNOFEST. We will also bring high-level executives from aviation-related institutions to visit our school. The Aviation High School has become an important high school in Türkiye and Kayseri in terms of prestige. Many people from various cities call me to ask for information about how we built this school. Foreign languages are very important, and I learned them at the age of 23, but after learning them, they opened all doors for me. Currently, I am the only mayor who has represented Türkiye in the Council of Europe for a long time, 11 years. Also, together with the Astronomy Department of Erciyes University, we are producing Türkiye's first CubeMeteorological Satellite. Its R&D has begun. God willing, we will send it into space. We want this. It is a great prestige that such a study is being conducted in Kayseri. Our studies of this kind will continue and will be a great motivation for our students. May God grant our children good destinies and success. As the municipality, I will try to provide all the support I can here. I wish our students who are starting their new academic year a successful one.”
