Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, the Mayor of Melikgazi, issued a commemorative message on the anniversary of the February 6 earthquake that occurred in 2023.

Expressing their commitment to making Melikgazi a more prepared district for earthquakes, Mayor Palancıoğlu stated, it has been one year since the February 6 earthquake. Our pain is still fresh. Work is ongoing at full speed in all earthquake-prone areas. We have also provided assistance to the earthquake-stricken areas to the best of our ability. Since the first moments of the earthquake, which was dubbed the disaster of the century, we have worked hand in hand in Kayseri, demonstrating solidarity to heal the wounds in the earthquake zone. At the Kayseri Earthquake Coordination Centre established under the instructions of our esteemed Governor Gökmen Çiçek, we collaborated with representatives from various organizations including Ömer Gülsoy,Head of the Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, Mehmet Büyüksimitçi, Head of the Kayseri Chamber of Industry, Mehmet Yalçın, Head of Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone, Lütfü Çarşıbaşı, Head of Mimarsinan Organized Industrial Zone, and İrfan Püsküllü, Head of İncesu Organized Industrial Zone. We signed cooperation protocols to ensure that our aid efforts were coordinated effectively. With the dedicated support of the people of Kayseri, we delivered over 1000 truckloads of emergency aid, hygiene kits, medical supplies, beds, blankets, quilts, stoves, and various other forms of assistance to the region. We particularly established two container cities in Maraş and bazaars in Elbistan and Adıyaman. We also provided all kinds of technical and financial support, including search and rescue efforts, with our entire staff. We sent mobile toilets and showers to Hatay, Maraş, and Elbistan. May Allah never show us such pain and sorrow again. I extend my condolences to all our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the earthquake. I remember our losses with prayers. I also thank my colleagues who worked tirelessly day and night in the earthquake zone.
