Melikgazi Municipality Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu issued a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 19th May Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day.

“On this meaningful day, which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gifted to the youth, I congratulate all our young people on their holiday,” said Mayor Palancıoğlu, adding:

“May 19, 1919, is the day when the torch of independence of our nation was lit, the first step of our struggle for independence was taken, and at the same time, the endless trust, hope and future placed in the youth. It is the history of a courageous step taken. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, by setting foot in Samsun on May 19th, lit the torch of liberation and changed the unfortunate fate of a country. It is also very important that this day, which is the symbol of our struggle for independence, is given as a gift to our youth, who are the guarantee of our future, and declared as a holiday. It is our duty to protect our Republic, to preserve our national and spiritual values, and to work together in unity to carry our country to stronger tomorrows in every field. As Melikgazi Municipality, we are working with all our might to ensure that our young generations have much better opportunities in the future and are raised with more skills, and we are mobilizing all our resources for our youth. If our youth work, produce, and become more equipped and knowledgeable, there is nothing that our youth cannot achieve. In order to look to the future with confidence as an independent and free nation, we must explain the importance of the struggles of the past to the younger generations in the best way possible. Our youth are the greatest guarantee of our country, the greatest asset of our nation. It is wealth. With these feelings and thoughts, I commemorate our esteemed martyrs and heroic veterans, especially the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, with mercy and respect; and I congratulate our nation and all our youth on the 19th of May Atatürk Commemoration, Youth and Sports Day.”
