Historical Gön Han, which embodies the historical texture of Kayseri with its 520-year history, is coming to life again with the restoration works of Melikgazi Municipality.
“We have brought a truly priceless, very important historical artifact to Kayseri.”
Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa
Palancıoğlu, stated that they will introduce Gön Han to the public after the works, and made the following statements in his statement:
“We are in Gön Han, which is extremely important for Kayseri, in terms of restoration, and in terms of our history, and which we also attach great importance to.
Gön Han was built approximately 520 years ago by Piri Mehmet Pasha as a place where tradesmen and merchants who came to the Grand Bazaar could stay. We started a large-scale work on this 1400-square-meter area 3.5 years ago. The ground work has now begun. All traces of Gön Han have been revealed, its rooms have been created, and its restoration has been completed. In order not to harm the tradesmen, all the excavation work is put into sacks during the day and taken out at night and loaded onto trucks.
A total of nearly 5000 trucks have been excavated so far. Work on the ground It is ongoing. Hopefully, we are planning to finish our work as soon as possible and open it for service by the end of this summer. I would like to thank our friends who contributed. We have truly brought a priceless, very important historical artifact to Kayseri. We are restoring this place, which has been closed for 60-70 years, completely abandoned to its fate, and belongs to the foundation, and bringing it to Kayseri. May it be blessed.”
