EUROPEAN COUNCIL IS COMING TO TURKEY TO OBSERVE THE LOCAL ELECTIONS ON MARCH 31ST
07 March 2024

The members of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe will come to Turkey from March 29th to April 2nd, 2024, to observe the Local Elections to be held on March 31st.

Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, who held an online meeting with members of the European Union Committee of Local and Regional Governments, stated: 'We represent our country in Europe as well, where there are 350 members representing 47 countries in the European Union Committee of Local and Regional Governments. I have been representing our country in the Council of Europe for 10 years. For the Local Elections on March 31, 2024, approximately 35 observers will come to Turkey from the European Union Committee of Local Governments to monitor the elections. 'In this context, we conducted our first meeting online with Strasbourg and answered members' questions related to the election. We provided detailed information about our election campaigns and activities. The observers, who will focus on the period before and on the Election Day, will monitor the political climate and election activities during the campaign period and prepare a report. We expressed that there was a democratic turnout of over 85% in the elections and that women and youth were represented effectively. We shared the situation of our country regarding the elections. It was a productive meeting. I hope that the elections on March 31st will proceed smoothly. I wish for our successful colleagues to represent our country in the best possible way. I hope our meeting will be beneficial.
