Melikgazi Municipality's Successful Applications Were Welcomed with Interest at the Conference
Emphasizing that the conference strengthened regional cooperation by supporting local governments to become active actors in the energy transformation, Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Mustafa Palancıoğlu, "Our municipal authorities attracted attention with the exemplary projects we have carried out in the field of environment and energy at the Turkey final meeting held in Istanbul within the scope of the EU4 Energy Transformation Project supported by the European Union. As Melikgazi Municipality, we also have international collaborations. In 2022, we signed the "Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy" and made a commitment to climate and energy at the European level. As Melikgazi Municipality, we are taking concrete steps in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy investments and environmentally friendly transportation. It is both a great pride and an indicator that we are on the right track for our projects to be shown as examples on such international platforms. In the program, our R&D Director conveyed the municipality's sustainability vision, the practices it has implemented and international collaborations to the participants, emphasizing that Melikgazi is not only a project partner, but also acts with the vision of being a local actor that embraces change and assumes responsibility in the fight against climate change. In the presentation,
The Solar City Project, which was implemented with the support of the European Union, stood out. Within the scope of this project, our municipality established a solar power plant (GES) on the roof of the municipality service building, placed an electric vehicle charging station at the entrance of the municipality, supported the agricultural irrigation system with solar energy, and added a domestically produced electric waste collection vehicle to its fleet for the Environmental Protection and Control Directorate. This project stands out not only with its economic but also environmental contributions, and it also represents an important step in the green transformation of the district. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the program and my colleagues who conveyed the successes and exemplary projects of Melikgazi to the Europeans. he said.
