Melikgazi Municipality hosted a colorful event that brought technology and science together with its citizens. In the program held in Çarşı Melikgazi, the humanoid robot MEGA was the center of attention for visitors, while the TEKNOFEST champions, whom Melikgazi Municipality has supported for approximately 6 years, also received their awards.
In the event, which appealed to technology enthusiasts of all ages; From wooden airplane building workshops to space observation tents, from drone football to flight simulations, the excitement of science and technology was experienced together with many educational and fun activities. Speaking about Melikgazi Municipality's support and services in the field of technology, Melikgazi Municipality Research and Development Manager Muzaffer Elgün said: “As Melikgazi Municipality, we have been the closest supporter of youth and technology for years, offering two main innovations. For about 6 years, we have been providing significant support to TEKNOFEST. To date, we have supported over 100 teams; and as a total cost, we have contributed over 20 million TL. As Melikgazi Municipality, we continue to be closely involved with our TEKNOFEST teams and continue our support. This year, 12 of our teams competed. Only this We provided support totaling up to 5 million TL this year, and we didn't limit this only to TEKNOFEST; we support all the technical processes of the projects. As a result of this support, we are hosting two teams that won first place at TEKNOFEST. If I need to give some basic information about MEGA; we are talking about a machine with 27 robots. It has two computers; one solves mechanical tasks, while the other houses artificial intelligence, which is now on everyone's agenda. It is a robot that can answer questions, and feels like it belongs to Kayseri and Melikgazi Municipality.”
Melikgazi Mayor Assoc. Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu, stating that they are working with great importance and sensitivity to prepare young people for the future in the best way, included the following statements in his speech:
“Young people are our most valued asset. We are constantly investing in young people. We are the municipality that builds the most schools and libraries in Turkey. We built our Aviation and Space Sciences High School. Hopefully, some of the young people here will go there and new Selçuk Bayraktars will be trained in our school. We aim for our young people to produce our humanoid robot in the future. As Melikgazi Municipality, we support our young people in TEKNOFEST. We provide financial support to university, high school, and middle school projects. Last week, we took our students from Havacık High School to TEKNOFEST in Şanlıurfa. Hopefully, these kinds of supports will continue. The reason we are making today a technology day is that developed countries like China and America are very advanced in technology. In the ranks of... They are producing robots, UAVs and UCAVs, developing products with artificial intelligence. Kayseri needs to be a city that produces technology, robots, UAVs, and UCAVs. Our history is suitable for this. We will guide these young people, provide opportunities, and they will sign off on projects that will make a name for themselves in our country.”
THE FOUNDATIONS OF ROBOT MAKING WILL BE LAID AT THE TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL
Stating that they aim to benefit from technology in many vital areas, Mayor Palancıoğlu said that in the technology high school whose foundation will be laid, they aim not only for the consumption of robots but also for their production, and continued his speech as follows: He said:
“The reason we are introducing the humanoid robot today is this: We want to produce, not just consume and use. We are establishing our technology high school, right across from the Technopark, together with the Güldüoğlu family. In 2027, we will lay the foundation of our technology high school. There will be a robotics department here, and industrialists in Kayseri will start producing robots. God willing, the robots we will develop will be able to enter buildings during earthquakes, floods, and especially fires, and we will not risk human lives. We use dogs in the fight against drugs on the streets because of their sense of smell. However, when we add scent sensors to robots and give them various capabilities, they will also help us in the fight against drugs. We will have the opportunity to use robots in all kinds of fields. Our humanoid robot is a product of a company we bought from China. But I thank my team; currently, we are adding new computers to this robot.” They added software. It became a more capable robot than what we had before. Hopefully, as a municipality, we will also support the development efforts of this robot. We love young people. Thankfully, our Melikgazi District Governor and Kayseri Governor are also supporting us. We have the GÖKTİM project. Within the scope of GÖKTİM Melikgazi, we established three technology workshops. Today, we offer the work we do here as free training to the students we have selected and who have passed the exam. In addition, with our Mektep Melikgazi project, we provide training that will enable our young people to gain skills in social areas. We also laid the foundation of our Foreign Trade High School. We haven't held the groundbreaking ceremony yet. We are building a Foreign Trade High School in the Altınoluk region. We are also building a middle school next to it. It will be a school that will market the products we produce in foreign languages and sell them abroad.”
